This project started as a fire assignment for Dynamics 2 class. With the energy of the song, I knew I wanted to build on the concept and create something imaginative and surreal.

Matte Painting Photoshop + Nuke

I knew that I could save a lot of work by using a matte painting, because I only really needed one wide shot to get a sense of the environment. A 3D blockout served as the foundation. Then I took the render into Photoshop, where I painted layers of detail, decay, and atmosphere. Finally, I projected the painting back onto the original geometry in Nuke.
